The emergence of energy sector in the Lüderitz area: what is next for Lüderitz waterfront development?

08 July 2025

With the advent of new discoveries such as oil and gas  in the vicinity of Lüderitz, the collective LWDC leadership is again called upon to play supportive role for the full realisation of these new industries, by offering relevant facilities for new industries to operate.

Oil & Gas development, Kelp Blue plantations and the envisaged Green Hydrogen development will undoubtedly put the harbour town of Lüderitz on the world map. In other words, Lüderitz is destined to become the epicentre of African growth and development.

The harbour town of Lüderitz is now a place of business interest due to the potential growth including the logistics sector around the port; and businesspeople continue to flock to the town at the rate never seen before.

The town is already undergoing high demands for offices, residential properties, be it apartments or hotel accommodation and other relevant amenities such as modern private hospital etc.

The role to be played by the collective LWDC leadership in the next phase of Lüderitz Waterfront Development would be the timely provision of upmarket accommodation facilities, corporate offices and related amenities   such as advanced professional medical services which is not available at the town at present.

Medical Tourism is expected to play a major role in the coming years given the expected rise in local population in years to come. All these exciting developments are critical for LWDC as it allows it to provide relevant services to emerging industries and generate much needed incomes and help the company in its drive for financial self-reliance.

Through the provision of modern Lüderitz Waterfront infrastructure and relevant facilities, the company can derive diversified incomes which may lead to business sustainable.
