08 March 2026

High-Level Visit Highlights Growing National Interest in the Lüderitz Waterfront

The Lüderitz Waterfront continues to attract senior government officials to its premises. On 06 March 2026, Lieutenant General (rtd) Denga Ndaitwah, the First Gentleman of the Republic of Namibia, visited the Lüderitz Waterfront during his two-day working visit to Lüderitz, hosted by the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company (LWDC).

During the visit, the First Gentleman toured the new facilities at the waterfront, particularly the impressive Namibia Maritime Museum and conference facilities.

The First Gentleman, who was hosted in the state-of-the-art sea-view accommodation at the Lüderitz Waterfront Guest House at the now-transformed Lüderitz Old Power Station (LOPS), also made use of the world-class gym housed in the same LOPS building.

He encouraged all visitors to make good use of the impressive Lüderitz Waterfront facilities.

Towards the end of his visit, the First Gentleman was given a presentation by management on the growth strategies and planned infrastructure development projects that aim at enhancing the tourism destination for both the harbour town of Lüderitz and the //Kharas Region.

As has become a custom with all visitors to the Lüderitz Waterfront, the First Gentleman left very much inspired not only by the world-class quality and the cleanliness of the waterfront premises and professional staff, but he also laid emphasis on the vision, dedication, and determination of executive management led by the CEO of LWDC, Mr Fluksman Samuehl. He commended the company for its great achievements and its commitment to transformational leadership approaches.

Leadership Reflections on the Growth of the Lüderitz Waterfront

In his reply, Mr Fluksman Samuehl, who is also the Chairman of the Public Enterprise CEO Forum, said the following:

“It is impressive and indeed a milestone how the Lüderitz Waterfront has evolved into a significant destination which people cannot ignore when you find yourself in Southern Namibia. The journey of the Lüderitz Waterfront is man-made and not a miracle. It explains what can be achieved when the shareholder, the board, and management are fully aligned and see the end results of what needs to be achieved together. The LWDC has proven this point.”

Mr Samuehl further said, “The story of the Lüderitz Waterfront is that of passion and love for Namibia. I therefore thank the Board, led by the visionary Dr Angel Tordesillas, for allowing management to dream big, innovate, and act decisively and with urgency in the best interest of national development without fail. At the Lüderitz Waterfront, we turn each challenge we encounter into an opportunity. Namibia needs development and not those who stifle progress.”

“I also thank our progressive team members, stakeholders, and friends of the LWDC. Our shareholder, the Namibia Government, deserves commendation for having invested in the company’s long-term vision.”

As an optimist, Mr Fluksman Samuehl concluded his remarks by saying that better days are yet to come for the Lüderitz Waterfront.
